There is no official outfit, but every site has its own rules. You will almost always find:

Fatigues or combat shirt?
Fatigues (BDU-style jacket and trousers, for Battle Dress Uniform) remain the toughest basic outfit: thick fabric, plenty of pockets, a loose cut. A combat shirt is a top with a breathable torso and reinforced sleeves, designed to be worn under a vest: your arms stay covered without overheating under the plate carrier. Many players combine fatigue trousers with a combat shirt or technical T-shirt.
Shemagh and neck gaiter
The shemagh, a large cotton scarf, protects the neck from sun, dust and vest rubbing. It suits a desert or milsim style, but it does not replace face protection: a BB goes straight through it.
Footwear
Boots with a lugged sole support the ankle on uneven ground. In CQB or speedsoft, sports shoes with good grip are often enough. Avoid brand-new shoes on the day of a long game.
Which outfit style should you choose?
- Realistic milsim: you recreate a unit or era (law enforcement, Russian, US). Consistent colours and gear matter as much as quality.
- CQB and indoor: dark, light outfit with full face protection.
- Sniper and recon: camouflage suited to the terrain and a ghillie to break up the silhouette.
- Speedsoft: light sportswear, often in team colours, minimal gear.
- Civilian or PMC: cargo trousers, technical top and a low-profile vest; the armband is still essential to be identified.
