Why a Ghillie Suit
Changes Everything in Airsoft

The ghillie suit is the ultimate camouflage equipment for the airsoft sniper. Worn correctly, it makes you almost invisible in natural environments—forest, groves, brushy areas. Poorly designed, it becomes a thermal and mobility handicap.

At BDU Airsoft, we're familiar with both approaches: buying a ready-made ghillie (ideal for a quick start), or building your own piece by piece for camouflage perfectly suited to your terrain. This page is your starting point.

02 · METHODOLOGY

The 6 steps to
make your ghillie

A well-built ghillie starts with a good base and materials suited to the terrain. Here's the recommended method, used by experienced airsoft snipers.

1

Select the database

Light BDU or bare camouflage netting. The base should be breathable and durable. Avoid thick synthetics that trap heat.

2

Prepare the tenderloin

Sew or attach a camouflage net to the base garment. This is the backing onto which you will attach all the camouflage materials.
Choosing your fishing net →
3

Choosing the materials

Burlap in a roll, synthetic raffia, artificial leaves, vines... Mix several textures to effectively break up the human silhouette.

4

Dyeing and painting

Match your colours to your terrain: deep green for dense forest, khaki/brown for mixed areas. Matte camouflage spray paint is essential.
5

Tie up the plants

Integrate freshly picked natural vegetation for the current game. Replace it each session to maintain realistic camouflage.

Test and fine-tune

Observe yourself from a distance from which you will be visible. Adjust the density and distribution of materials. A sniper checks his camouflage before each mission.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before building or buying your airsoft ghillie suit.

Making your DIY ghillie suit involves 6 steps: choosing a base (BDU or bare net), attaching a support net, integrating materials (jute, raffia, leaves), dyeing it according to the terrain, partially adding natural vegetation, and testing the result from a distance. All of this is detailed in our step-by-step guide higher up on this page.

A DIY ghillie offers camouflage perfectly suited to your usual terrain, but requires time and materials. A ready-made ghillie (like those in our collection) is operational immediately and also makes an excellent base for customization.

Classic materials include natural jute (best texture), synthetic raffia (lighter and moisture-resistant), artificial leaves, and lichen/moss for wet environments. The ideal approach is to mix several textures to break up the silhouette. Find our selection in the DIY accessories section.

For woodland terrain: dominant dark green, lots of dyed jute, green leaves. For desert or Mediterranean terrain: khaki, ochre, dry brown. For mixed or autumnal areas: brown/green/yellow mix. Matte camouflage spray paint is your best ally for adjusting shades.

Yes, the ghillie suits sold on BDU Airsoft are versatile pieces of equipment, also effective for hunting, sniper paintball, or wildlife photography. The 3D design and materials used are identical to military standards.

After each use, shake out your ghillie thoroughly to remove debris. Allow it to air dry before storing it. Store it hanging or rolled without compression (do not fold it flat). For cleaning, a rinse with cold water without a machine is sufficient in most cases.

DIY airsoft ghillie suits are the preferred approach for snipers who want camouflage perfectly suited to their usual terrain. Unlike an off-the-shelf ghillie suit, a homemade ghillie allows you to choose each material – natural jute, synthetic raffia, artificial leaves – and combine them according to the environment in which you play: dense forest, hedgerow, mixed zone, or arid terrain. Making your own airsoft ghillie doesn't require any special skills. It mainly requires a methodical approach, the right materials, and an understanding of basic camouflage principles: breaking up the human silhouette, playing with textures and depths, and adapting shades to the ambient light of the terrain. Our 6-step guide details each phase, from choosing the base to the final adjustments before playing. If you prefer to start with a solid foundation rather than building everything from scratch, our ready-made ghillie suits are also an excellent option. They are constructed using the same principles as DIY ghillies and can be easily customized with the accessories offered on this page. Whether you're a beginner curious to understand how to make an airsoft ghillie, or an experienced sniper who wants to refine their camouflage, you'll find everything you need here: materials, method, and ready-to-play equipment.
