In airsoft, the armband identifies each player's side: you know who to shoot, who is on your team and, for marshals, who is in play. It is worn clearly visible, usually on the upper arm, and the site or organiser often sets its colour. Camouflage must never hide it.

What is the armband for?
- Identifying sides: when two teams wear similar outfits, the armband colour prevents friendly fire.
- Safety: marshals quickly spot players and teams.
- Refereeing: in a dispute, everyone knows who belongs to which side.
- Scenario roles: medic, officer or civilian can wear a specific marker, depending on the game rules.
Which armband colours?
There is no universal code: each site or organiser sets its colours, often two strongly contrasting ones (for example red and blue, or yellow and green). At many sites, armbands are handed out at reception. At a milsim event, colours and special markers are given in the briefing.
How to wear your armband

Armbands and camouflage
A sniper in a ghillie is tempted to hide their armband: this is forbidden at most sites and dangerous. Leave a gap in the fibres or wear the armband on top. See ghillie mistakes to avoid.
Other markers on the field
- The dead rag: a player who is hit pulls it out or raises a hand to show they are out.
- Marshals' clothing: often highly visible, such as an orange vest, so they are not mistaken for players.
- Role markers: medic band, officer armband, depending on the scenario.
