The GIGN, the French Gendarmerie's intervention unit, uses ballistic helmets with rails that carry lights, comms and, for the assault, a flip-up protective visor. That silhouette, a dark helmet with a clear visor in front of the face, is what you recognise in intervention photos.
In airsoft, you recreate the look, not the ballistic protection. Our helmets are replicas in ABS or light materials, designed to take BBs and carry accessories.
Which helmet to use as a base?
The visor clips onto side rails. The helmet must have them, and it should be black or very dark for the GIGN look.

The GIGN/SWAT visor: what it does
The GIGN/SWAT visor is a clear polycarbonate lens on a reinforced nylon frame. It is 28.5 cm wide and 14.5 cm high. It mounts on the side rails of FAST and MICH helmets without screws or tools, and flips up or down through 90° with one hand. It comes in black at €33.99.
On the field, it protects the forehead, nose and cheeks from BBs coming from the front. It does not close the sides and is not eye protection: airsoft glasses or a mask remain compulsory underneath.
How to fit the visor on a FAST helmet?
- Clean the rails: dust and sand stop the clip from engaging properly.
- Engage one side, then the other, sliding each mount along its rail until it clicks.
- Set the height with your glasses or mask on: the visor should sit in front without pressing on them.
- Flip it up and down several times to check the pivot is clean on both sides.
- Shake your head: if the visor moves, tighten the mounts again.

What about fogging?
