The sniper observes, reports to the team and takes out targets at range from a position of their choosing. Effectiveness rests on three qualities: reading the terrain, staying still for a long time and firing only at the right moment. The equipment serves those qualities, not the other way round.
1. The precision replica
- Spring bolt action: the most common choice. Each shot is cycled by hand, which demands discipline and keeps noise down.
- Semi-automatic precision replica (DMR): a faster follow-up shot, often subject to different site rules.
- Gas or HPA: consistent power, but gas is sensitive to cold.

2. Optics
- A low to medium magnification scope is enough: airsoft engagement distances stay short, and high magnification narrows your field of view.
- A solid mount that holds zero after knocks and transport.
- A sunshade or lens cover: a glint on a lens gives away a position more surely than a poorly chosen outfit.
Many sites ban lasers and restrict lights: check before fitting one.
3. Clothing: building camouflage in layers
A sniper's outfit is built in three layers, from the most neutral to the most visible.

5. Protection, even in position
