A chest rig is a harness worn on the chest that carries magazines and small kit, with no plates and no back protection. Russian designs stand out through their cut and volume, which differ from Western chest rigs. The names you will see most are SMERSH and RPK, two systems from the Russian brand SSO that inspire our replicas, and the 6B13, made famous by Killa the boss in Escape from Tarkov.
SMERSH SSO chest rig: the all-rounder
The SMERSH SSO is made of waterproof 900D Oxford fabric. Its Velcro pouches are removable, so you can adapt what you carry to the game. It adds a quick-loading water bottle pouch and an intercom pouch with a button lock. The shoulder and waist buckles are adjustable, and the whole rig weighs about 1.1 kg.

It is made of high-strength nylon and polyester, with integrated side MOLLE straps, reinforced clips backed by an inner safety cord, and adjustment from 75 to 125 cm.

Which Russian chest rig should you choose?
- You are starting a Russian loadout: the SMERSH SSO. It is light, handles rain and comes in enough colours to match your helmet.

How do you adjust a Russian chest rig?
- Set the height: the pouches should sit at the bottom of your ribs, so you can pull a magazine without raising your elbow.
- Tighten the straps just enough to stop the rig bouncing when you run, without restricting your breathing.
- Tighten the waist belt last, once the rig is loaded.
- Test it kneeling and prone: those are the positions where a rig that sits too low gets in the way most.
- Spread the load between left and right so the rig does not twist.
